Have you ever wished the page that opens when you first come to your website wasn’t your blog page? We have figured out a way to change your homepage to be a static page instead of the blog page.
How to change your homepage to be a page other than your blog page
Two of our libraries have added a Voki to their site. A Voki is basically an avatar that has animation and talks. An avatar is an online personality. To see their Voki’s in action go to Stanton County’s or Hamilton County’s KLOW sites. Click the play button on each Voki to get the full effect.
The Voki is a widget that can be customized and added to a sidebar on your page. This is how Hamilton County and Stanton County incorporated into their pages. It can also be added to any page on your site. The directions below tell how to add a Voki to a KLOW site. These directions can be adjusted to add a Voki to any site.
Step1: Create your Voki Character
1. Go to the Voki site. (www.voki.com)
2. Click on the orange Get Started button.
3. This will take you a customization page.
4. Customize your character by choosing a character style, choosing clothes and accessories, background, and adding your own voice if you wish. You have the option of adding your own voice with a message or text to speech.
5. When you are satisfied with your character click on the Publish button at the bottom of the page.
6. Give your scene and name and click on Save.
7. The site will then ask if you want to create a usern ame. You don’t have to do this. Some advantages of having a user name: can edit characters already created, use them on other sites, etc.
8. After this the Add To Your Site tab should be selected. Select the size you want (S, M, or L).
9. Select and Copy the code in the For Most Sites Use This Code box.
Step 2: Getting the widget on your site.
1. Log into your site.
2. Click on Design.
3. Click on Widgets.
4. If you have more than one toolbar decide which toolbar you would like it on and make sure that toolbar is showing.
5. Scroll down until you see the Text widget on the left hand side and click on Add.
6. Drag it to the spot you want it to be on the toolbar.
7. Click on Edit.
8. Give it a title (if you want) and paste your code over that you copied in #9 above.
9. Click on Change and then Save Changes.
